About Modern CPR
Current, honest lifesaving training — built on the same resuscitation science the world's national councils use, and taught as an interactive course you actually do.
Our mission
Modern CPR exists to make current, honest lifesaving training accessible to anyone, anywhere. Most people who witness a cardiac arrest are ordinary bystanders — a family member, a coworker, a coach — and the minutes before help arrives decide the outcome. The training for those minutes should be up to date, genuinely engaging, and completely transparent about what it is and where it counts.
Where resuscitation standards come from
“The guidelines” aren't written by any single company. There's a clear chain from the underlying science to the course you take, and understanding it explains exactly what Modern CPR is built on:
- ILCOR publishes the consensus science. The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) is the global body that reviews the world's resuscitation research and publishes the International Consensus on CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) — the evidence base everything else is built on.
- Regional councils write the guidelines. Councils such as the American Heart Association (AHA) and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) take that consensus science and turn it into practical, regional guidelines — the recommendations clinicians and instructors actually follow.
- Organizations build courses and certifications. Training providers then build lessons, courses, and certifications from those guidelines. Modern CPR is one of those providers.
What Modern CPR is built on
Our curriculum is built directly on the 2025 ILCOR consensus science and the 2025 AHA guidelines. Our first-aid topics also reflect the 2024 AHA/American Red Cross first-aid guidelines. In practice, that means we teach what's current — including the things many budget courses haven't caught up to yet, such as bystander naloxone for a suspected opioid overdose and the latest choking sequences — rather than a version of the guidelines from years ago.
How we teach
Modern CPR is an interactive course you do, not a video you sit through:
- Interactive by design. Every lesson has knowledge checks and decision scenarios you must work through, because being made to recall information is how skills actually stick.
- Mastery-based. The final exam requires 90% to pass. If you fall short, we send you back to the exact topics you missed and give you a fresh set of questions — the goal is that you truly know it, not that you guessed well once.
- Radically honest about acceptance. We tell you up front what our Certificate of Completion is, what it isn't, and where it's accepted — no fake seals and no accreditation claims we can't back up. See our full acceptance guide →
Who writes our content
Every lesson is written to the current 2025 guidelines and reviewed for accuracy before publication. When the science changes, our lessons change with it.
Independent, and clear about it
Modern CPR is an independent provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or ILCOR, and we don't use their names or marks to imply otherwise. Our content is aligned with the same 2025 guideline science those organizations draw from — that's the standard we hold ourselves to, and the reason we can be so specific about what we teach.
